Introducing Joseph Lubin, software engineer, consultant, and entrepreneur. Though now, an influential figure in the blockchain industry, Lubin has always been interested in technological advancements. Born in Toronto, Lubin went on to graduate from Princeton University cum laude with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. For three years after graduating, he worked in as manager of Princeton’s Robotics and Expert Systems Laboratory. There, he worked on projects related to machine became a research scientist and software engineer for Vision Applications where he continued his research in these fields as well as looking into custom hardware and power systems and built an autonomous mobile robot. Lubin then began work at Tomandandy, where he developed an autonomous music composition tool.
Lubin then transitioned into the business world obtaining the Vice President of Technology position in the private wealth management division at Goldman Sachs. Following this turn into the business world, Lubin became the Director of the New York office for Blacksmith Technologies and later moved to Jamaica to become the CEO of SyNerG Music, a music management company.
The events of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the effects of the financial crisis in 2008 forced Lubin to reevaluate how the world’s organizations are structured. He believes that decentralized infrastructures can be more fluid and responsive and that they can distribute power more broadly.
Lubin became interested in blockchain technology when he read the white paper of Bitcoin by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2013. Vitalik Buterin had proposed the idea of Ethereum and later in 2014 Lubin became committed to supporting the project of a more expressive, scalable and powerful blockchain system and he became a co-founder of this project. They are committed to making bitcoin blockchain faster and more secure. Lubin believes that blockchain technology and its potential for creating a shared infrastructure could serve as “an organizing principle for Earth, the world, the planet”.
Later in 2014, Lubin founded ConsenSys, a decentralized blockchain production studio building decentralized applications on Ethereum. It is the largest and fastest growing company in the blockchain tech space which provides solutions for enterprises and governments by harnessing the power of Ethereum. ConsenSys employs over 600 top entrepreneurs, computer scientists, software developers and experts in enterprise delivery worldwide. ConsenSys has a global presence, in fact, the European Union has selected it to help spread blockchain all across Europe. They believe that blockchain has the ability to be transformative for financial services and that ConsenSys can help with this.
As co-founder of the second largest cryptocurrency based on market value, Joseph Lubin can be considered one of the most influential people in the blockchain industry. His interest in this field has helped spread blockchain technology on a global level. Lubin’s hopes for the coming year are to uphold ConsenSys’ growing responsibilities in the blockchain space as it works towards fostering growth in the industry.
